Analyzing Data in the Angle Domain

This simple example illustrates the ability to measure an analog phenomenon synchronously with measurements of rotational motion, and to analyze that data over a single revolution. In this case, the angular position and current of a DC Brush motor were measured simultaneously. Samples were taken every 10mS for 1 second.

Comments

• The measured current has spikes that repeat every revolution of the motor. Using one of the many functions designed for the analysis of motion, users can overlay plots that repeat every n degrees, inches, seconds and so on.
• The bottom left graph is plotting current versus position over one revolution for a single revolution.
• The bottom right graph is plotting current versus position over one revolution for about 18 revolutions.
• Because analog samples are acquired synchronously with measurements of motion, the measured current spikes that occur every 32.7° in this example are correlated to the appropriate rotor angles.

Although we only measured a single current in this example, the SensorPlot™ is capable of simultaneously measuring many voltages, currents and so on with measurements of motion.
